So Pun took me to the store, we bought the book, and all I want to do now is read it.
Here are a couple shots from the book:
This is a picture of a child's table that shows all the Thai alphabet characters with their corresponding pictures. Pun had the same one growing up and it is still in the backyard!
This picture is not so clear, but it shows how the wiring is done around here sometimes. It caught Pun's attention, he started laughing and said he had seen this before, and he didn't know why they did it this way.
The book explains why drinks are served in bags and not cups, why Thai napkins are so tiny and pink, and a hundred other mysteries surrounding daily life and religious practices.
Pun's cousin said she had read parts of it as well and thought it was really a neat book. She said if I read it all I would know more than her about Thailand! I thought that was sort of funny. There is so much in our own cultures that we take for granted and really don't fully understand.
Really, if you are desparate from something to read, and want to get a feel for what we are experiencing, you can see our life in this book. Maybe you can check it out at the library?? :)

What a little treasure to find. Like a roadmap for the culture you are living in. I will have to see if they have it at the library.
So why do they serve drinks in bags and not cups? Is that messier - especially for the kids?
The book really looks interesting. I am going to see if the library can get it.
Mom
Hope you guys can find it at the library.
Drinks are served in bags so the glass bottles can be recycled. Another reason, I am guessing, is that bags are cheaper. Actually the kids do pretty well with them because they have handles. You just can't sit them down anywhere. You have to hang them on a bar or something.
Hi Merri,
I think about you constantly and miss you alot. Helen is really missed in the sunday school class. About every other week Livvy is explaining to someone about Helen moving to Thailand and living on an airplane. We are studying creation and yesterday we made turtle hats. I could picture Helen in one. Livvy has taken over Helen's job of answering all the questions for me. The boys are content to let her.
I hold you responsible for my newest addiction. At least once a week (and sometimes more) I have to have a McDonald's double cheeseburger. I'm responsible for Dave's new addiction to them. I think about you every time I eat one.
Your absence is really felt at church. Retreat just didn't seem right without you there although Diana did a comendable job of driving us to the yard sales.
I had a really vivid dream the other morning that I was with you and it was just like our walks, so comfortable and close. I won't forget the love and biblical advise you always had for me. I tried to send a note before but got all hung up on the stuff below, I know I'm technologically challenged but Jesus loves me any way.
I really love reading all the things you write in your blog. It makes me feel like you're here but on vacation or something.
I'm glad you're settling in and hope you feel at home more and more. I pray for you constantly. Hugs all around for everyone.
Love, Deb
